Hi, my name is Chloe, and I’m currently a grade 10 student at STEM Innovation Academy with a strong interest in mathematics and engineering. I enjoy problem-solving and working through challenges, whether it’s designing something new or a complicated problem.
Although I don’t have formal work experience yet, I’ve developed important skills through my schoolwork and extracurriculars. I’ve participated in numerous school activities which have helped me build teamwork and leadership skills.
Outside of academics, my experience on the U15 AA Fire black hockey team has taught me discipline, perseverance and time management. Hockey has help shape my work ethic and taught me skills that require organization and commitment.
In the future, I hope to study engineering and eventually work in a field that allows me to design practical solutions to real-world problem.
Feel free to connect with me at cvdrolet18@gmail.com. I’m always open to learning and new opportunities.
Based on the feedback received from the mock interview, my strengths include my ability to stay on topic while clearly explaining skills and their connection to the job. However, I need to work on showing more enthusiasm and giving more complete answers without rambling or stress responses like talking too fast or fidgeting. At first, I felt a bit discouraged because I thought I had done better, but the feedback helped me realize what I can improve and made me feel more confident about what I did well. In my day to day basis, I will work on showing more energy and engagement and pause while I’m speaking so I can use clear vocabulary and stay focused in my responses.
Three Most Important Lessons:
Needs and Wants: This lesson taught me my priorities as a consumer and how to budget my money efficiently. TThis skills will help me manage my money responsibly as I prepare for post-secondary.
Moving Out Project: This project showed me how expensive adult life is, not only introducing me to rent and taxes, but also transportation which takes a huge hit to my budget. Overall, this course taught me the value of money and showed me the steps as I move out in the future.
Career Exploration: Exploring different career paths and understanding mhow my interest and strengh align with possible futures helped me narrow down my goals. I showed me the steps I need to take now and in university in order to be an architect or engineer.
Transferable Skills: CALM 20 helped me build organization as a key transferable skills. The deadlines allowed me to prioritize tasks and I learned how to better manage my time and responsibilities. For highschool, this will help me manage my homework and prioritize tasks that have close deadlines, reducing my stress.
Three areas to grow/improve in:
Time Management: I sometimes procrastinate with longer projects. To deal with this, I will use the five minute rule, where you commit to the project for just five minutes. This will help me break larger task down and get me start in a more efficient way.
Decision Making: I often rely on others when choices are hard. To accomplish better decision making, I will practice making smaller decisions independently and evaluate outcomes. I'll also create pros/cons lists for bigger decisions.
Communication: I often stray from the main topic. To stay on track, I will take the time to respond accordingly and think about what I have to say first.
Progress in Each Skills:
Responsibility. I've improved by completing assignments more consistently and on time.
Organization: I'm better at tracking tasks and due dates, but still working on planning long term projects.
Independent Work: I'm much more confident in getting work done on my own without constant supervision.
Collaboration: I've learned to contribute fairly in group work and to share my opinion while remaining respectful of others.
Initiative: I've grown more comfortable asking for help or starting tasks without being told.
Self-Regulation: I still struggle with staying focused, but I've started using breaks and rewards to manage distractions better.
Two Skills to Improve for Grade 11:
Initiative: Developing this skills will help me become more proactive in leadership roles and applying for scolarships and programs that align with my goals.
Self-Regulation: Stregthening this will help me handle stress and stay motivated, all while maintaining a better balance with my academic and personal life, especially with a heavier workload in Grade 11
